ScatterMap Log

A loose log of sorts, tracking my ongoing exploration of UV-Free texturing based on scattering a bitmap tile onto surfaces. The tiles have irregularly shaped alpha channels. They are randomly applied using localized projections. Those projections along with randomized location, size and rotation are supplied by MODO's Surface Particle Generator. Vertex weight maps modulate those particle generator properties. Color variation is supplied with RGB vertex maps.

A rather complex MODO shader tree derives various masking and bump mapping effects from the tiled bitmaps.

Yes, MODO is obsolete, having reached EOL. Nonetheless, I'm unable to resist using its remaining functional time to continue exploring the modeling and texturing tools I developed during my many years working with Luxology/Foundry.
